Life sciences (Sciences de la vie, علوم الحياة) include disciplines studying living beings (plants, animals, microorganisms). Biochemistry (Biochimie, بيوكيمياء) or 'chemistry of life' is a discipline that studies biological molecules (biomolecules), their functions and their metabolisms. Biochemistry and molecular biology (Biologie moléculaire, بيولوجيا جزيئية) are the key disciplines constituting Biotechnology. The successful transition from high school to university is dependent on good preparation for this transition on all aspects including preparation for entrance examinations regarding (competitions for access to medicine and dental surgery studies, pharmacy studies, ..) and adaptation to new teaching languages and teaching methods.
STUDIES ON BIOCHEMISTRY AND LIFE SCIENCES AT THE UNIVERSITY
In high school, studies focus on life and earth sciences. At the University, we go into specialization and we study Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and other subjects related to life sciences.
FROM LIFE SCIENCES, BIOCHEMISTRY and MOLECULAR BIOLOGY TO BIOTECHNOLOGY
Through interdisciplinarity bringing together in particular Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics and Microbiology, we have witnessed the birth of modern biotechnology based on recombinant DNA. While biochemistry (and molecular biology) are studies of biological processes taking place within living organisms, biotechnology is the product of these discoveries, allowing biochemistry and MB to be exploited for Biotechnology purposes.
SEPARATION AND ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES IN BIOCHEMISTRY
The diversity of biomolecules (structures and properties) requires adequate separation and analysis techniques for their extraction, separation and analysis of their activities. There are a variety of techniques, the main ones being chromatography and electrophoresis.
