2011- 2012. Cologne, The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing invites applications for Max Planck Research Group Leaders in Biology of Ageing (W2)

We seek talented, dynamic, independent, and motivated scientists early in their career to establish a Max Planck Research Group at our Max Planck Institute in Cologne. Successful candidates will develop an independent research program using their own budget, which will fund research positions, consumables, and equipment. The successful candidates should have an outstanding scientific track record with clear evidence of leadership, and a strong interest in one or more aspects of the biology of ageing, with an emphasis on causative mechanisms. Additionally we encourage scientists with expertise in the fields of biochemistry, mass spectrometry, protein quality control and homeostasis, coupled to a strong interest in ageing, to apply.

The initial appointment of the group leaders is for 5 years with the possibility of extension (2 × 2 years) after international review. For more general information please see also:http://www.mpg.de/918399/MPRGL. The start date is negotiable, and the move-in date will depend upon completion of the MPI’s new building.

The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing was founded in 2008 for the purpose of understanding fundamental mechanisms of healthy ageing. The environment of the institute is international, and the working language is English. It is part of a broad network of research institutions in the Cologne-Bonn area dedicated to research on ageing and age-related disease, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment for research. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and excellent core facilities, the institute provides outstanding research opportunities for its scientists. Currently hosted in a new research building on the University of Cologne campus, the MPI will move into ist own newly designed building in late 2012.

Applications should include:
• a cover letter explaining why you would like to join our Institute
• your Curriculum Vitae including your publication list
• a statement of scientific achievements
• a two page summary of your future research plans
• up to three of your most important papers
and be uploaded as one single pdf-file using our application website (job code: #16/2011):http://bewerberportal.age.mpg.de/ojae/. Please also arrange for 3 academic references to be sent as pdf files to references@age.mpg.de . Deadline for application is September 26th 2011. Successful applicants should be prepared to join a selection symposium held on December 13th 2011 in Cologne.

The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer, and is interested to raise the proportion of women in areas where they are underrepresented. Thus applications from female scientists are especially encouraged.

2010-2011. Postdoctoral Fellowship in bacteriophage biotechnology/microbiology, Arab Biotechnology Company (ABC),

We glad to inform you that Arab Biotechnology Company (http://www.arabbio.com/) offer a 5 years Postdoctoral fellow in bacteriophage biotechnology/microbiology.
The fellow should have good knowledge within phage, bacterial detection, and environmental microbial ecology with an emphasis on phage ecology.
In addition experience in rapid bacterial detection and/or phage amplification is of relevance. The fellow will be engaged in projects were the use of phage tools to develop rapid bacterial detection plays a central role.

Applicants should send a letter of interest and C.V.to: prof.jassim@yahoo.co.uk

For more information: http://www.arabbio.com/

ABC is a dedicated to the discovery, development and commercialization of novel biotechnology. The Company has had considerable success in the area of bacteriophage (design/breeding, biocontrol, bioprocess and therapy) natural drug discovery “anti-microbial agents”, herbal anti-nematodes, anti-red-tide camelid biotechnology and water treatment. ABC has launched its first 6 products herbal agents for various agricultural applications at the end of 2008 and rapid (70 min) qualitatively and quantitatively E. coli O157:H7 detection 2009. ABC are also engaged in research to develop effective natural drugs for rotavirus, anti-H1N1, HCV, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), multi-drug resistant (MDR)-Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB), Cholera, and malaria from selective bred and designed phages, herbal medicine and camelid biotechnology.

January 30, 2010, In 2010, FSC awards up to 29 scholarships for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers for a period of 4 to 36 months, starting April 15, 2010. The Center wishes to attract outstanding PhD students and postdoctoral fellows pursuing a career in academia or development collaboration. The scholarships aim at increasing their previously gained scientific knowledge and skills relevant to food security related issues. Furthermore, FSC aims at establishing an active, long-lasting collaboration with the supported researchers and their home institutions.
